A dazzling introduction to paleoclimatology for kids, connecting the methods that scientists use to study our climate history with future climate change solutions.

Believe it or not, ice isn’t always just frozen water.

In fact, most of the ice covering our planet contains thousands of years' worth of information about our atmosphere. This ice is made up of a lot more than snow—it has soot, volcanic ash, gasses, and other substances that affect the climate.  And if we drill a piece of that ice? We get a frozen time capsule, courtesy of Earth.

In this exhilarating middle grade nonfiction book by a former educator, kids are immersed in the field of paleoclimatology. Readers go along on an ice core expedition, run through each step in the collecting and transporting process, review the fascinating components of an ice core, and explore the specialized labs where scientists examine them.

But these pieces of our planet are more than just cool records. By preserving and studying these frosty collections of climate history, we can learn from previous patterns and better protect our planet in the future. The final chapter focuses on ice as a key tool in the fight against climate change.

With crystal-clear explanations and an engaging, kid friendly tone, the book features 15+ full-color photographs, diagrams, interviews with paleoclimatologists, a glossary of terms, and simple experiments for budding scientists at home. Books for a Better Earth are designed to inspire children to become active, knowledgeable participants in caring for the planet they live on.

Pretty solid introduction to GoDot as a complete beginner.
Format: Paperback
I'm not new to programming but I am new to GoDot. I started this book as a complete beginner to GoDot with no other knowledge. This book gives a pretty solid foundation to start with. I'm sure most of this is probably online at this point but it was nice to have something I could easily view offline and come back to. I took a star off as some parts of the edition I have has minor typos. Nothing that completely derailed my studies but something I had to recheck.

A Good Starting Point
Format: Paperback
I have experience with 3D modeling software and am an experienced programmer. It took me two days to get through the book, and I learned quite a bit about Godot. It would likely take someone completely new to this sort of software quite a bit longer. You could certainly dig up all the information in this book online, but this book walks you through the basics step-by-step and I recommend it as a starting point that isn't going to overwhelm you. I have just ordered the rest of the books in the series.

An excellent and easy intro to Godot
Format: Kindle
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn the sleek, open-source game engine Godot. The engine has so many features but learning the interface and workings of a new engine can be intimidating. This book knocks down that barrier and takes you through learning the interface, in getting comfortable with creating 3d objects, creating a 3d terrain and setting up a maze. It includes a link to resources to get you started. It is a good, basic intro and I'm looking forward to learning more.

The book is missing page 60 in the Kindle edition
Format: Kindle
I actually think the book is really good. I also like the way the content is divided into several books to make the cost of each book inexpensive. However, the Kindle edition that I purchases is missing page 60. I don't know if this was intentional or an oversight. I really want to give the book 4 or 5 stars. I gave it one in hopes of getting someone's attention. I will update this review and change the number of stars once I get an answer about page 60.

Perfect for beginners to explore with a minimum investment if making video games is for you
Format: Kindle
As an absolute beginner I found the book perfect for anyone that wants to explore the making of video games without having to studying lot of software programming. Prior to this I also read the similar book on Unity and found that for an absolute beginner this is perhaps a more gentle introduction. Godot seems to be at this level simpler than Unity as all the necessary elements to make a meaningful game are self contained. Patrick is an excellent teacher and drives you step by step to the point where you would be able to create on your own a multi scene 3D environment. Just getting there is very satisfying as I was able to surprise friends and family on my new acquired skill. Clearly after tasting what you can do with this book you must commit to some level of learning of software and this is where you need to ask yourself if your "exploration" is over or you are so thrilled you want to become a pro. This is entirely up to you, Patrick has shown you the way with a minimum investment of time and money, good luck whatever you decide to do.
