Hareline Premo Deer Hair Strips — The Ultimate Material for Spinning, Winging & Everything In Between

Few natural materials are as versatile as deer hair — and Hareline's Premo Deer Hair Strips are the premium choice for tyers who demand consistent quality. Whether you're spinning and clipping a Dahlberg Diver head, winging a Goddard Caddis, or building a Muddler Minnow, these strips deliver the hollow-fibered buoyancy and workability that makes deer hair irreplaceable on the bench. Each strip measures approximately 15" x 2.5" and is available in a wide range of colors for fresh, salt, and stillwater applications.

Key Features

  • Hollow-fibered hair — naturally buoyant, durable, and easy to work with
  • Premium quality — consistent fiber length and density for reliable spinning and stacking
  • Approximately 15" x 2.5" per strip — plenty of material for multiple flies
  • Available in a wide range of colors — natural and dyed options for any pattern
  • Works across fresh, salt, and stillwater patterns

Uses

Spun and clipped deer hair bodies and heads, dry fly wings (up and downwing), emerger wings, nymph wingcases, terrestrials, streamer heads, and bass bug bodies.

Deer Hair vs. Elk Hair

Deer hair is the superior choice for spinning and trimming — it flares more aggressively and clips cleaner than elk hair. Elk hair has slightly larger, less brittle fibers with more trapped air, making it a better choice for applications where you want a stiffer, more durable wing. For spun bodies and clipped heads, deer hair wins every time.

Classic Patterns That Use Deer Hair

  • Muddler Minnow
  • Goddard Caddis
  • Dahlberg Diver

This IS where you start to understand it all!
Format: Paperback
While I haven't received my Second Edition book yet I do have the First Edition and I can say it's very thorough and well explained to even the beginner level. If you're trying to learn both Linux and Cybersecurity this IS the place you want to start. It will save you a ton of headaches and you're getting VERY VALUABLE skills you can use in any scenario. I would call it an advanced starting point. Linux itself can be somewhat difficult and daunting to learn and understand if you're coming from a strict use (Windows in my case) OS 25+ years. This book bridges that gap effectively and you can absorb the knowledge with a little work. Also watching OTW's video on YouTube with David Bombal is an excellent follow along source. In my opinion, OTW does the best job of explaining exactly what you need to know. And follow it up with a video or two of how to understand the Linux file system and you'll soon be set to go. David Bombal's vids on setting up VM on your computer are also very helpful! If your intention is to get into Cybersecurity from zero knowledge this IS the best point to gain valuable knowledge whether it's to crack into IT, Cybersecurity or just for your own knowledge, this book is worth 10x it's price!
